INSPECTION PROCEDURE
FOR THE PALO VERDE HIGH SCHOOL
NV-20011 AFJROTC CADET CORPS
THE INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR SQUADRON OPEN RANKS INSPECTION WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS DIRECTIVE. SEE FIGURE 1 FOR A LIST OF THE COMMANDS.
A. FALL IN: (PERFORMED IN THE CLASSROOM)
FLIGHT COMMANDER ASSUMES THE POSITION OF ATTENTION AT THE DESIGNATED LOCATION AND COMMANDS:
“COLUMN OF FILES FROM THE LEFT, "FORWARD”
THE FIRST ELEMENT LEADER COMMANDS: “FORWARD”, THE 2ND, 3RD AND 4TH ELEMENT LEADERS COMMAND: “STAND FAST”. THEN, THE FLIGHT COMMANDER COMMANDS: “MARCH”. THE FIRST ELEMENT LEADER MARCHES TO A LOCATION SELECTED BY AN INSTRUCTOR, AND COMMANDS: “ELEMENT, HALT”, THE 2ND, 3RD AND 4TH ELEMENT LEADERS, IN TURN, COMMAND: “FORWARD", MARCH”, AND FOLLOW THE 1ST ELEMENT, AND THEN COMMAND “ELEMENT HALT”.
NOTE 1: THE LEFT FLANK OF THE FLIGHT WILL BE SQUARED OFF WITH THE EXTRA CADETS FILLING IN FROM THE FOURTH TO THE FIRST ELEMENT. THE FLIGHT SERGEANT WILL ALWAYS BE THE LAST CADET IN THE FOURTH ELEMENT.
NOTE 2: THE SQUADRON COMMANDER WILL BE POSITIONED CENTERED BETWEEN BOTH FLIGHTS APPROXIMATELY SIX PACES FROM THE FLIGHT COMMANDERS.
B. SIZE THE FLIGHT AND COUNT OFF:
THE FLIGHT COMMANDERS GIVE THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:
“WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ELEMENT LEADERS (EL) AND FLIGHT SERGEANT (FS), IF YOU ARE TALLER THAN THE CADET IN FRONT OF YOU, TAP THEM ON THE SHOULDER AND MOVE FORWARD"
“RIGHT FACE”
“WITH THE EXCEPTION OF EL AND FS, IF YOU ARE TALLER THAN THE CADET IN FRONT OF YOU, TAP THEM ON THE SHOULDER AND MOVE FORWARD”
“LEFT FACE”
“WITH THE EXCEPTION OF EL AND FS, IF YOU ARE TALLER THAN THE CADET IN FRONT OF YOU, TAP THEM ON THE SHOULDER AND MOVE FORWARD”

NOTE: ON THE COMMAND “OFF”, THE ELEMENT LEADERS TURN THEIR HEADS 45 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT AND IN UNISON CALL OUT “ONE” OVER THEIR RIGHT SHOULDER. ONCE THE NUMBER IS SOUNDED, THEY TURN THEIR HEADS BACK TO THE FRONT. THIS PROCEDURE CONTINUES IN QUICK TIME UNTIL ALL RANKS (FULL OR PARTIAL) ARE NUMBERED.

THE FLIGHT COMMANDER FACES ABOUT AND ASSUMES THE POSITION OF PARADE REST.
C. SQUADRON COMMANDER REPORTS IN:
WHEN THE INSPECTING OFFICER/NCO APPROACHES THE SQUADRON COMMANDER, HE/SHE COMES TO ATTENTION AND COMMANDS:
“SQUADRON”
THE FLIGHT COMMANDERS COME TO ATTENTION AND COMMANDS:
“FLIGHT”
THE SQUADRON COMMANDER GIVES THE COMMAND:
“ATTENTION”
SQUADRON COMMANDER WILL REPORT TO THE INSPECTOR AS FOLLOWS:
“SIR/MA’AM, (PHANTOM, NIGHTHAWK, or RAPTOR) SQUADRON REPORTING AS REQUESTED, SIR/MA’AM”
D. SQUADRON COMMANDER PREPARES FOR INSPECTION:
THE INSPECTOR WILL TELL THE SQUADRON COMMANDER TO PREPARE THE SQUADRON FOR INSPECTION. THE SQUADRON COMMANDER EXECUTES AN ABOUT FACE AND COMMANDS:
“COMMANDERS, PREPARE YOUR FLIGHTS FOR INSPECTION”.
FLIGHT COMMANDERS WILL EXECUTE AN ABOUT FACE GIVE THE COMMAND, IN SUCCESSSION:
“OPEN RANKS, MARCH”
ON THE COMMAND “MARCH” THE FOURTH ELEMENT STANDS FAST AND EXECUTES A DRESS RIGHT DRESS. STEPPING OFF WITH THEIR LEFT FOOT, THE THIRD ELEMENT TAKES ONE STEP, THE SECOND ELEMENT TAKES TWO STEPS, AND THE FIRST ELEMENT TAKES THREE STEPS FORWARD, AND EACH CADET EXECUTES DRESS RIGHT DRESS WHEN THEY ARE IN PLACE. THIS POSITION IS MAINTAINED UNTIL “READY FRONT” IS GIVEN. ALSO, ON THE COMMAND “MARCH” THE FLIGHT COMMANDER EXECUTES A HALF LEFT IN MARCHING AND MOVES BY THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE TO ONE PACE TO THE RIGHT FLANK OF THE FIRST ELEMENT LEADER, AND FACES DOWN THE LINE. TO CORRECT ALIGNMENT, IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO MOVE CADETS FORWARD OR BACK BY CALLING THEIR NUMBER, I.E. “3 UP, 4 BACK”. INSTEAD OF WEAVING FROM SIDE TO SIDE, THE COMMANDER WILL TAKE SHORT SIDE STEPS TO VERIFY ALIGNMENT. TO MOVE TO ANOTHER ELEMENT, THE FLIGHT COMMANDER FACES LEFT IN MARCHING AND HALTS AT THE RIGHT FLANK OF THE NEXT ELEMENT LEADER, FACES RIGHT AND ALIGNS THAT ELEMENT. AFTER ALIGNING ALL ELEMENTS, THE FLIGHT COMMANDER FACES TO THE RIGHT IN MARCHING AND MOVES THREE PACES BEYOND THE FIRST ELEMENT, HALTS, FACES TO THE LEFT, AND COMMANDS:
“READY FRONT”
THE FLIGHT COMMANDERS THEN TAKE ONE STEP FORWARD,AND PERFORMS A LEFT/RIGHT FACE. WHEN BOTH FLIGHT COMMANDERS ARE IN PLACE, THE FIRST LETTER FLIGHT COMMANDER WILL HALF RIGHT/LEFT, FACE AND REPORT:
“SIR/MA’AM” (A, C, OR E) FLIGHT IS PREPARED FOR INSPECTION”, “SIR/MA’AM”
“SIR/MA’AM” (B, D, OR F) FLIGHT IS PREPARED FOR INSPECTION”, “SIR/MA’AM”
E. FLIGHT INSPECTION:
NOTE: THE INSPECTOR WILL INSPECT ONE OF THE FLIGHTS AND THE SQUADRON COMMADER/DESIGNATED INSPECTOR WILL INSPECT THE OTHER FLIGHT.
AFTER THE FLIGHT COMMANDERS ARE INSPECTED, HE OR SHE IS ASKED TO ACCOMPANY THE INSPECTOR AND IS GIVEN THE INSPECTION SHEETS. THE FLIGHT COMMANDER THEN EXECUTES A LEFT FACE AND COMMANDS:
”SECOND, THIRD AND FOURTH ELEMENTS, PARADE REST”
THE FLIGHT COMMANDER EXECUTES A HALF LEFT IN MARCHING WITHOUT ARM SWING AND HALTS ONE PACE TO THE RIGHT OF THE INSPECTOR. THIS POSITION IS MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE INSPECTION. WHEN MOVING FROM CADET TO CADET, THE INSPECTOR AND FLIGHT COMMANDER SIMULTANEOUSLY EXECUTE A FACE TO THE RIGHT IN MARCHING AND HALT IN FRONT OF THE NEXT CADET TO BE INSPECTED. THEY THEN SIMULTANEOUSLY EXECUTE A LEFT FLANK. BEFORE THE INSPECTOR STOPS IN FRONT OF THE SECOND ELEMENT LEADER, THE ELEMENT LEADER COMES TO ATTENTION, TURNS THEIR HEAD 45 DEGREES TO THE LEFT AND COMMANDS:
“SECOND ELEMENT, ATTENTION”
THE FIRST ELEMENT LEADER WILL THEN TURN THEIR HEAD 45 DEGREES TO THE LEFT AND COMMAND:
“FIRST ELEMENT, PARADE REST”
THIS PROCEDURE IS CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THE REMAINING ELEMENTS. AFTER THE INSPECTION IS COMPLETE, THE FLIGHT COMMANDER WILL GIVE THE INSPECTION SHEETS TO THE INSPECTOR, POSITION THEMSELVES ONE PACE FROM THE LAST ELEMENT LEADER, AND MARCHES THREE PACES BEYOND THE FIRST ELEMENT LEADER, HALTS, FACES TO THE LEFT AND COMMANDS:
“FLIGHT, ATTENTION”
THE FLIGHT COMMANDER THEN TAKES ONE STEP FORWARD, FACE TO THE RIGHT AND RECEIVES COMMENTS FROM THE INSPECTOR, AND RETURNS THE INSPECTOR’S SALUTE BEFORE HE/SHE DEPARTS.
THE FLIGHT COMMANDER WILL CENTER THEMSELVES ON THE FLIGHT, SAY “PARADE REST”, DO AN ABOUT FACE AND GO TO PARADE REST.
THE SQUADRON COMMANDER RETURNS TO THEIR POSITION CENTERED ON THE FLIGHTS IF THEY PERFORMED THE INSPECTION. OTHERWISE, THEY WILL MAINTAIN THEIR ORIGINAL POSITION.
F. DISMISSING THE FLIGHT:
WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR INSPECTOR/S HAS/HAVE COMPLETED THE INSPECTION, THE SQUADRON COMMANDER WILL COME TO ATTENTION, DO AN ABOUT FACE, AND SAY, “SQUADRON, ATTENTION. FLIGHT COMMANDERS, TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR FLIGHTS.”
THE FLIGHT COMMANDERS THEN FACE LEFT AND COMMAND:
“CLOSE RANKS, MARCH”, FOLLOWED BY: “PARADE REST”
NOTE: ON THE COMMAND “MARCH”, THE FIRST RANK STANDS FAST. THE SECOND RANK TAKES ONE PACE FORWARD WITH COORDINATED ARM SWING AND HALTS AT THE POSITION OF ATTENTION. THE THIRD AND FOURTH RANKS TAKE TWO AND THREE PACES FORWARD, RESPECTIVELY, AND HALTS AT THE POSITION OF ATTENTION.
THE FLIGHT COMMANDERS THEN POSTS IN FRONT OF, AND CENTERED, ON THE FLIGHT, FACES LEFT, AND BRIEFS THE FLIGHT ABOUT THE INSPECTOR’S COMMENTS AND INSPECTION RESULTS.
AS EACH FLIGHT COMMANDER COMPLETES THEIR BRIEFING, THEY COMMAND: “RIGHT FACE” “COLUMN OF FILES FROM THE RIGHT, COLUMN RIGHT, MARCH”, OR ANOTHER APPROPRIATE COMMAND.
THE FLIGHTS WILL RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM OR ANOTHER DESIGNATED LOCATION.

THE FIRST ELEMENT LEADER WILL THEN TURN THEIR HEAD 45 DEGREES TO THE LEFT AND COMMAND:
