Uniform Guide - Chapter 7
AIRMAN BATTLE UNIFORM (Honor Cadets Purchase Only)
The Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) is only authorized for AS-IV Honor cadets. ABUs will only be worn when directed by the SASI. At all other times, cadets will wear either the Class A/B uniform. The ABU must be worn in accordance with this Guide and all other applicable directives (see Attachment 13).
ABUs must be neat and clean at all times. The uniform may be washed (and pressed if needed on a low setting).
C. BLOUSE & TROUSERS:
The blouse will not be tucked into the trousers. If worn as a short sleeve, the sleeve material must match shirt and will touch or come within one (1) inch of forearms when arm is bent at a 90-degree angle. The trousers will be worn on the hips and bloused using the blousing elastic or tucked into the top of the boot.
D. BELT & BUCKLE: The desert belt and buckle will be worn with the trousers.
E. UNDERGARMENTS: Undershorts and the crew neck, desert sand T-shirt must be worn at all times. The long-sleeve mock turtle neck t-shirt is authorized during cold weather.
F. FOOTWEAR: The green combat boots will be worn with green boot socks. Athletic shoes may be authorized by the SASI for specific events.
ABU Cap: Worn squarely on the head with no hair protruding in front of the cap. AFJROTC hat insignia will be worn centered on the front of the hat. Cadets may stow the hat in either of the lower cargo pockets on the ABU trousers when not wearing.
H. COLD WEATHER:
Cadets may purchase the ABU APECS or sage green fleece outer garment for wear during the winter. As an alternative, cadets may wear long underwear under the ABU as long as only the desert sand T-shirt is showing (i.e.- must wear the blouse as long sleeves).
I. GLOVES OR MITTENS:
Black or dark blue leather, knitted, tricot, or suede, or a combination of leather, knitted, tricot, or suede gloves or mittens without logos may be worn with the uniform.
J. AIGUILLETTES (Ropes):
One rope may be worn with this uniform. It will be worn on the left shoulder. It is not worn on the APECS/Sage Green fleece outer garment.
